Holiday Mail That Gets Kept, Not Tossed
How to send holiday note cards and postcards your customers actually keep. Plus 10% off holiday mail Nov 30 to Dec 6.
Every December, mailboxes fill up with cards. Some end up on the fridge or the front desk for weeks. Most go straight into the recycling bin. The difference is rarely the budget. It is whether the card feels like it was meant for the person holding it.
This guide covers how to send holiday mail that gets kept, from choosing the right format to writing a message that does not sound like a form letter. And the timing works in your favor: from Monday, November 30 through Sunday, December 6, 2026, holiday mail is 10% off, including note cards, envelopes and 16pt postcards. The discount applies automatically at checkout, and code HOLIDAY10 works too.
Decide what the mail is for
Holiday mail usually does one of three jobs:
- Say thank you. To loyal customers, referral partners, vendors and your own team.
- Stay top of mind. A friendly reminder that you are around for the new year.
- Announce something. Holiday hours, a seasonal offer or a gift card push.
Pick one. A card that tries to thank, sell and inform all at once does none of them well. If you need to share holiday hours and a promo, put those on a separate postcard and let the thank-you card stay a thank-you card.
Note cards or postcards?
Note cards with envelopes (note cards from $29.99, envelopes from $75.99)
Note cards are the personal option. They arrive in an envelope, which already signals that this is not junk mail. They are the right choice for your best customers, partners and anyone you want to genuinely thank. They also give you room for a handwritten line, which is what people remember.
Matching branded envelopes finish the look. A logo and return address on the envelope tells the recipient who it is from before they open it.
16pt postcards (from $44)
Postcards are the efficient option. No envelope, no stuffing, and the message is visible the moment it is picked up. A thick 16pt card with a UV coating feels sturdy and looks sharp. Postcards are great for reaching a larger customer list with holiday hours, a seasonal greeting or a gift card reminder.
Many businesses use both: note cards for a short list of key relationships, postcards for everyone else.
What makes a card worth keeping
- A design that stands on its own. A card that looks good on a shelf gets displayed. Lean on a strong image or a simple, warm design rather than a page of text.
- A short, specific message. "Thanks for a great year" is fine. "Thanks for trusting us with your spring remodel" is better. If you can mention something real, do it.
- A handwritten touch. Even one line and a signature makes printed cards feel personal. Leave room in the design for it.
- Your brand, quietly. Put your logo on the back or on the envelope, not across the front. The card is a gift first.
- Inclusive wording. If your list is broad, a greeting like "Happy Holidays" or "Warm wishes for the new year" lets everyone feel included.
Consider a new year card
If December feels too crowded, send a new year card instead. Cards that arrive after the rush have less competition and can carry a forward-looking message about the year ahead. It is also a good fallback if your list comes together late.
Plan the details
- Clean up your list first. Remove duplicates, fix addresses and decide who gets a note card versus a postcard.
- Leave room for addressing. On postcards, keep the address side clear and simple.
- Build in time. Proofing, printing, signing, stuffing and mailing all take longer than expected in December. Start early and give yourself room.
- Start from a template. Our artwork templates are set up with the right sizes and safe areas.
Every print order includes a free artwork review, so we catch small issues before they end up in a few hundred mailboxes.
