Flyer, Rack Card, Brochure or Postcard: Which One Fits?

When to use a flyer, rack card, brochure, postcard or door hanger, plus 10% off marketing materials Nov 2 to Nov 8.

Most small businesses do not have a printing problem. They have a format problem. The message is fine, but it is on the wrong piece of paper, in the wrong place, for the wrong reader.

A flyer, a rack card, a brochure and a postcard can all carry the same offer. They just do different jobs. Here is how to tell which one you actually need. And the whole shelf goes on sale: from Monday, November 2 through Sunday, November 8, 2026, marketing materials are 10% off, including flyers, rack cards, brochures, postcards, door hangers, posters, bookmarks and table tents. The discount applies automatically at checkout, and code FRESHPRINT10 works as a backup.

Ask three questions first

Before you pick a format, answer these:

  1. Where will the reader find it? In their hand, on a counter, in a rack, in the mailbox or on their front door.
  2. How long will they look at it? A glance, a minute, or a sit-down read.
  3. What should they do next? Call, visit, scan, book or keep it for later.

The answers point straight to the right piece.

Flyers: fast, flexible and for right now (from $24.99)

A flyer is the workhorse. It is great for events, limited-time offers, menus, new openings and anything that needs to go out in a hurry. Flyers get handed out, pinned to boards and left on counters.

Use a flyer when: the message is timely, you need a lot of them, and one clear offer is enough.

Watch out for: cramming. A flyer is read in seconds. One headline, one offer, one next step.

Rack cards: built for counters and displays (from $33.99)

Rack cards are tall and narrow so they stand up in display racks at hotels, visitor centers, waiting rooms and front desks. The top of the card is the only part some people see, so that is where your headline and logo belong.

Use a rack card when: you have a partner location that will display it, or you want a neat take-one stack at your own counter.

Watch out for: burying the point below the rack line.

Tri-fold brochures: for the reader who wants details (from $125)

A brochure earns its place when someone needs to understand a service before they buy. Panels let you walk the reader through what you do, who it is for, what it includes and how to start.

Use a brochure when: you sell something with options, steps or a longer decision. Think services, programs, memberships and anything with a process.

Watch out for: panel order. When a tri-fold is closed, the front cover and the back panel do the selling. Put the most important information where people look first, and keep contact details on the back.

Postcards: made to land in a mailbox (16pt UV from $44)

Postcards are the simplest way to reach someone at home. No envelope to open, so the message is seen the moment it is picked up. A thick 16pt card with a UV coating feels substantial and holds up in the mail.

Use a postcard when: you want to reach past customers, announce something to a neighborhood, or follow up after a visit.

Watch out for: the address side. Leave clean room for addressing and postage so the design does not fight the mail.

Door hangers: for neighborhood work (from $32.99)

If your customers live within a few blocks of where you work, door hangers put your offer exactly where they will see it. They are a natural fit for home services, lawn care, contractors and local food spots.

Use a door hanger when: geography matters more than a mailing list.

The supporting cast

Posters, bookmarks and table tents round out the category:

  • Posters for windows, walls and community boards where people stand and look.
  • Bookmarks for anything people keep: bookstores, libraries, schools, churches and classes.
  • Table tents for restaurants, bars, events and front desks, where a seated customer has a minute to read.

A quick cheat sheet

  • Need it fast and in volume? Flyer.
  • Need it to sit in a display? Rack card.
  • Need to explain a service? Brochure.
  • Need it in a mailbox? Postcard.
  • Need it on a front door? Door hanger.
